Audio/Video
At one point a long time ago I was the General Manager for a college radio station. I started as a DJ and somehow ended up running the show my senior year. Early on my real passion emerged: audio recording. I began to save my money and eventually purchased a wide variety of portable multi-track digital audio recording equipment; I've been known to show up with my gear at open mic nights to offer musicians free recordings. These days I produce podcasts more than anything and I'll have some new podcasts coming soon.
In the meantime, you can view some of the video edting I've done with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. I use Adobe Premiere and a low-budget camera, and occasionally dub the audio seperately on my own equipment.
Vernal Pool Salamanders
This video is part of a series in which scientists explain why protection of these vulnerable species is important. Staff of the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program at the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy explain the significance of their work while demonstrating a vernal pool survey.
These seasonal pools serve as a breeding ground for a multitude of creatures. Since the salamanders migrate and breed at night, this video had to be shot in the dark.
Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake Tagging
One of my first videos for WPC involved going into the field with some of our scientists to take video of a rattlesnake tagging. These snakes are protected in Pennsylvania, and live in vulnerable, often threatened habitats.
This particular rattlesnake was gravid (in other words, pregnant.) WPC scientists insert a microchip into the snakes so that they can keep track of their numbers.
WPC Member Testimonials
Once a year, for one day, WPC invites members to come to Fallingwater in the Laurel Highlands and participate in Members' Day. They learn more about our work over the year and enjoy a catered lunch, hikes, and of course Fallingwater
In this video, taken on Members' Day, the Meadowcrofts explain why they're members of WPC.
