Photo

I feel that photography goes hand in hand with design. A good photograph can do wonders for any design, and the right design can make a mediocre photo look compelling.

Photography is just as much a part of my day-to-day work as web development and design. I am the in-house photographer for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. I also develop the guidelines that define what constitutes a "brand acceptable" photo, provide direction for volunteer and freelance photographers, and select and edit photos for WPC communications materials.

Event Photography

Event photography is where the money is for freelancers. It also happens to be my favorite form of photography. Taking candid event shots encourages spontaneity and quick reflexes. The payoff is that you are able to capture and document the most unique of moments.

Portraiture

I don't shoot posed portraits very often. I much prefer to take images of people doing what they do candidly.

I feel that the best way to take a representative shot of a person is to have them doing what they love. This gallery features musicians, volunteers, and couples. Hover to zoom on example, click to view gallery.

Natural Photography

Most of the photography work I do at WPC is live event photography. I act as the in-house photographer, but more often than not I'm photograghing events at Fallingwater or media events. As an outdoor lover, however, I jump at any opportunity to photograph WPC's community gardens or land conservation results.

Architecture

Working at Fallingwater for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has really deepened my appreciation for Architecture. One of the first things I did was bring my camera with me and begin taking shapshots; I quickly realized that the house had already been shot at almost every angle. Even so, each time I go to Fallingwater I learn something new, and each time I bring my camera.
