Web

After graduating with a Bachelors of Applied Media Arts from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, I almost immediately went back to school. I had already begun a career in design, and decided to brush up on simple HTML and CSS to give myself an edge. Four years later, I am not just a designer, but a seasoned web developer. I love keeping on top of user interface trends and web standards. Opening a text editor and writing good, clean, semantic code is a refreshing technological change of pace for me, and writing CSS in particular is something from which I get a zen-like satisfaction.

I tend to opt for hand-coding when given the chance, and develop most of my websites without the use of a WYSIWYG editor. Lately I've been doing more coding under a framework, and have really begun to appreciate WordPress. After years of hand-coding, working under a framework has become an appealing alternative to me, and has simplified my process so I can concentrate on user interface, and flexing my CSS3 and HTML5 muscles. My next goal is to graduate to Joomla or Drupal and get more experience working with MySQL.

I was recently asked to build a site that would serve as a central hub to an online community of gamers. This site features a fully fledged forum, private messaging system, and complete content management system.

This was the first site I've ever used WordPress to develop. This site was built in HTML5 and takes full advantage of CSS3, while degrading gracefully for older browsers.

Fallingwater is a house with many windows. Because it also houses many priceless pieces of art, the windows can't just be any ordinary windows. They must also protect these works of art from being damaged by sunlight, UV rays and heat. These kinds of windows are expensive, so we developed the Window Legacy Fund, which helps potential donors decide which windows they'd like to help replace, puts them in contact with a corresponding fundraiser.

This section was developed in Ajax, with the intended purpose of being able to develop a sophisticated application that works both with and around a previously installed content management system developed by Wall to Wall.

Shelly Foundations, Inc.

Shelly Foundations, Inc. hired me to design and develop a website that shows off their services and equipment.

This website features an interactive portfolio and a contact form. Because the client wanted to be able edit the site themselves (and had experience doing so on another site), but didn't feel the need for a content management system, I also developed a style guide for them to reference when editing the site manually with Adobe DreamWeaver.

E-mail Marketing

I've developed e-mail blasts for several different companies, including Thermo-Fisher Scientific, Industry Weapon, and the Western Pensnylvania Conservancy. Not only did I learn about proper e-mail blast coding, I also studied CAN-SPAM thoroughly, and learned about the methods a proper e-mail marketing campaign uses for testing and tracking results.
